Hi, I'm Mark — and I have a checkered financial history.

I'm 40-something, married, dad of two teenagers, living in suburban UK. For years I did everything wrong — credit cards, no pension plan, lifestyle inflation every time I got a pay rise. I thought Financial Independence was for other people. Then something clicked.

I realised I had to take control — and I started this channel to document every honest step of that journey. No fluff. No perfect-finance-Instagram. Just real numbers, real mistakes, and real progress.

Early 2022

The Wake-Up Call

Looked at my finances properly for the first time. The numbers were not pretty. Something had to change.

Mid 2022

Started the Channel

Launched Desperately Seeking FI — committing to document the journey publicly, warts and all.

Late 2022

Cleared First Credit Card

Paid off the first credit card balance. Small win, massive mindset shift. Debt freedom felt possible.

Early 2023

Opened Stocks & Shares ISA

Made the first investment. Terrifying and exciting in equal measure. The FI machine was switched on.

2024

Hit First £10k Invested

A milestone that once felt impossible. Proof that consistency beats perfection every single time.
